So you spent $5 to get at least one coin worth $5.40 and 4 coins to sell and want to know if it's a good deal? I say no, but I'll save you from your silly decision and give you your $5 back for it.

I'll ask what I normally do. Are you happy with the deal? That's all that matters.

Yeah, I would say good deal... As long as you dont open it. That set is worth much more than five bucks to the average "coin collector". Nice find, I would take that deal all day long.

Opening it is not going to change the value in anyway. Not that this year has anything numismatic to begin with, but based on the photo I would guess it has already been opened anyway. If it was truly unopened the 'In God We trust' on both the quarter and dime would be flat. They seem rotated to me which would imply someone took them out and then put them back. For being over 40 years old, I'm not surprised at all that anyone would do that. Go ahead and enjoy your coins!! Good Deal

Surprisingly enough, proof sets are frequently broken up by dealers because the individual coins are easier to sell and for more money.

I don't think the rotation is evidence that it's been opened. I've seen brand new proof sets with crooked coins, and I think they can probably shift in shipping and whatnot.

If silver hits $50, you will make $2.39 in profit. Not bad in today's economy. Just put it away and when your grandkids have grandkids, they will get a thrill out of a 75 year old coin in proof condition. No harm,no foul. JP

The Quarter and Dime will not be silver unless it was a Silver Proof set, so really the Half is the only silver coin 40% so worth about 5.00
