Finally discovered the benefit of turning the GAIN control all the way up on my MXT. Hunting grass strips, i got a 1906 Barber 10c, 1923 s Mercury 10c, V nickel, and a beautiful 1909 s Lincoln (no VDB this time tho, :tongue3:) The Lincoln books at $150 in EF. Woo!

The little token at the left side of the pic is an old Missoula bus token. Cool.

Great hunt!

That penny sure is one sharp-looking key-date coin.

Congrats!

awesome coins! does your MXT give any false signals with the gain maxed out? Mine gets awful chattery with the gain up so high

Thems are sure sum sweet a$$ finds. Nice penny. Not bad for being worth a helluva lot more than face. Beautiful detail. It's almost like you can smell the shampoo in ol' Abes' hair with all the details.

WOW!! Super 1909-s! The ground really treated it good!
Congrats on a SUPER coin!

Yeah, that's the main reason I hadn't turned it up before. I got used to it pretty fast though, especially after finding such nice coins!

great dgis man... nice lookin '09....... rare to dig that ones.. let alone in that shape.. wheaties usually get hit hard by the soil here in ohio.... but some reason the '09's I have dug have held up way better than any other yr..... dunno why...... musta made em a lil better than other yrs........

Nice finds...  . If you don't have a copy of "MXT Edge" by Jeff Foster get a copy. Will help with setting up detector.

holey cow, excellent finds...a barber is next on my list..

Nice finds. I have to ask...do you think that those coins would have been missed had you not set your gain all the way? I'm curious...

Well, I did a little testing about that - I hit a nice signal that read about 4 inches deep, then I turned the GAIN down to about 7 and swept again. There was a big difference in the volume of the signal and the "quality" of the signal, if you know what i mean. Without the gain up higher the signal was a little broken up. The Mercury dime was found at exactly 5 inches, and the volume of it surprised me, as before silver at 4 inches was just barely audible. So i think it does make a difference on those deeper coins. The Lincoln was only 3 inches down and read as 5c/pulltab. I have no idea why . . . ???

Congrats on the silver dimes , token and the 1909-s wheat
The ground you were hunting must have been fairly clean to turn the gain up full tilt.
Every time I do that with my MXT here in Oregon, the chatter becomes totally over-powering ???
Did you tough it out or finally get used to it? Gold Nuggets :icon_jokercolor:

OH YEAH ~ NICE FINDS THERE DUDE!!! That 1909-S is AWESOME!!! CONGRAT'S!!
