good underwater machine

which one out of whites surf pi pro, tesoro ts, fisher1280x.in that price range.can you compare them please? mostly looking for gold. both in and out of salt water and dry sand. also whats better pi or vlf?

Well the 1280-X won't work in salt water,...well. I use the Surf PI and have fantastic results, but I have to dig every piece of iron, bobby pins, beer caps. I'd say the Excal or Infinium LS. I don't know enough about the others, good luck.

In this price range neither the PI or VLF is better than the other. Both have pros and cons depending on who you ask or what you want out of them. PI's are deeper, but lack good disc. VLF's have the disc, but lack some depth. Black sand can bother both too.

All of these have no trouble finding gold if you have the disc turned down where you can still hear pull tabs.

check out the garrett sea hunter mk ll, it's a pi machine with discrim. Not much, but you can avoid the pull tabs. Iron seems to be just one of the burdens you gotta bear. good luck. ps. i researched the better part of 4 months before deciding on the mark ll, so far I like it

But if you avoid the pulltabs you avoid the gold? So from what I am gathering it depends if you want to dig everything or not on the pi vs vlf? The way I see it if you want to hunt coins and jewelry only than vlf is the way to go if depth is more important than pi is the way to go. Correct me if I am wrong.also Does one have the advantage over the other on the dry sand or is it the same as being in the water?

The 1280-X will work in saltwater. You have to turn down the sensitivity in some cases to eliminate chatter, but it still works.

Correct but it is a marginal salt water machine. The LS will not be bothered by black sand and has some discrimination but you will still dig a lot of junk. Excal is better for places that have trash but not as deep as a PI
My solution is to go with the Excal and clean out most of the junk, coins and rings and then go back and get the deep ones with the LS. Works for me

Since you are looking for one machine to do it all, you are going to be better off in my opinion looking for a good deal on a used Excalibur. I believe I have the besty setup with an Infinium for the water and a Sovereign Elite for wet and dry sand. The Infinium is not effected at all by black sand and the Sovereign Elite is also not effected that I can tell.

The deals are out there if you are patient. I picked up my Sovereign Elite for a trade on some used golf clubs I had in the garage that were worth about 150.00 I got my Infinium on EBAY with two coils and two sets of earphones (water and land) for 725.00 and free shipping. They retail at Kellyco for 1060.00 with one coil and water headphones. Watch EBAY almost daily and Craig's list online and you will eventually find a good deal. Patience is the issue when looking for a quality used machine at a good price. Craig's list online is where I found the guy wanting to trade the Sovereign Elite for a good set of used golf clubs. If you are patient, you will find a great deal on an older Excalibur. Right now there is some guy who thought he wanted to be a Treasure Hunter looking at his and deciding that the whole treasure hunting thing isn't for him. He thought he would be rich in about two months and all he has to show for his troubles is a couple of gold earrings, a sore back and a sunburn. Nobody told him that there is actually some hard work involved and that you may have weeks of being shut out. He is about to list that Excalibur for sale online in the next few minutes to set things right in his world.

I am very partial to the Infinium for the water and it is deadly on gold and deep. It is so deep however that I could not reach about 10 percent of my targets in the water this weekend due to the hole filling itself back in before I could recover the target. I guess I need a bigger scoop or a young limber back youth to do my digging for me.

Like SWR said that is the price range and I do not want two water units. I hunt land with three already and only want one more that I can use in the saltwater and dry sand. How is detector pro?
