First one is Quartz, wondering if that looks like gold on it ? not shiny but gold and hard
Second picture(s) Im finding these rocks that have a sort of red/Brown salt and pepper outside and easy to break in half, sometimes on the inside is the black flaking rock along with some quartz, the boken pic, shows some gold coloring inside, maybe Iron, If I was smart I would have checked to see if magnetic before posting this..didnt photo 8.JPG photo 14.JPG photo 13.JPG
FYI, I live in Placerville CA, in the same canyon as Gold Bug Park, has the Preist mine along with countless others
Thank you

Would you know what this is. I'm in the mother load area. Found a good vein of quartz in slate. 3 metal detectors say gold. Whites GMT/whites TDI/ falcon MD20. Is this a common source of lode gold an silver. I own the mining rights to the 20 acres. I can't find anyone to assay the material for me. So I'm going about it myself. Thanks for any help.. Metal detectors say gold? Have you ripped any gold out of the rock?

Crush and pan, and crush and pan, then crush and pan! ...any gold?

Haha so I have crushed an panned maybe a little more would help. I get very fine micro gold that's it. Not a lot just a little so my thought is it could be platinum or silver given the colors. Do I just need to go deeper. Is it common to fine a gold vein in slate. I have been gathering up all the tools needed to do assaying. Hope to find out soon. Lots of rocks ready to melt.

How about this one? A friend of mine found it earlier this summer in Utah. It's about the size of a softball and clear as glass.

I'm no expert but it kinda looks like a weathered hunk of glass slag they sell at some tourist traps...

Hi mate,

Looks groovy.I am in Scotland. The part that was a bit of North America. In fact I am off on a mission tomorrow. Thus far,my richest gold panning has been in the slate/clay mix. Slate is a good sign for me here.I am by the Highland boundary fault. Slate = good for me.There is gold all the way down to the slate/clay but it is bigger when I hit the slate.
Good luck.Sincerely. Tomorrow I will be in the America in Scotland.I actually found a piece of your painted mountain here.I conquered it.I am the supreme ruler of it. My question to you rock heads is, that considering it is composed of aluminium and iron oxides, would crushing it give you a natural thermite?
Good luck with your assay.

So, I found this metal detecting. Not magnetic, very hard (couldn't really scratch anything off with plyers), soaked it for 24 hours in muriatic acid with nothing dissolving. I found it in placer conditions in the CA desert a couple inches down where I have found tiny placer gold. I am gonna take it hopefully to some hardrock mining pro's in the next week or two. A buddy told me to show you hardrock guys on this forum board. Any ideas?

What kind of detector you running. What does it sound like. Softansweet or trashyharsh. Have you got a tile saw Or some way to polish a spot on the rock. You will be Abel to see the matrix of the rock. It will give you a better idea of what it is. Very cool maybe a big hunk of antimony.

Haha ok. That's good you dig more targets. Sound is all in the detector you are using. It's like your girlfriend that only likes it that one way. Sound can change with depth an placement in the hole/ground. The overlode sound is not a good sound to Jude what it could be. Raise the coil until the sound goes to a nice even sound. And then what does it say. Is it a nice dull emmmmm or errrechhhhh what does the iron tracker do grunt or nothing An the %probability of a gold target. This will all tell you more about the rock itself.

G'Day , GinRicky with Mineral that needs to be ID ……….argh DSC02077.JPG

Wanted to add three pictures some macro …..but page not responding …?

you can See what appears to be small patch of gold on the top Left of this specimen that I Cracked open & lucky it broke in 1/2 nicely and split the ….Argh what I thought/think is gold patch in 1/2 .

Came from a river thats known for fine gold, 20 kg boulder was spat out of the river by typhoon maybe this year ? .

I was kindling hoping thinking this is Limonite and its Gold bearing as i see lots of small gold particles throughout the oxidized patches. The Black Veins have me Stumped in the specimen?.

Love to hear some knowledgeable thoughts from geologists on what I have …..maybe need to post some Macro pictures in another thread? .

What I can see on the bottom of this specimen way below the Oxidized upper portion with black veins & mainly on the outer portions is mica, of a different color.

Your thoughts appreciated thanks.
