I got in my new TRX yesterday. I had been told they were flimsy and cheaply made. But whoever told me that obviously had not held one in their hand. I find it to be very well made. I love the fact that you can use either the 9v or two AA batteries. I was anxious to see how it would perform and had just the place in mind. So I popped a couple AA batteries in it and headed to the local HS football field. In the past I have tried to hunt under the metal bleachers with no luck. Way too many false signals even with the small coil on. So my idea was to just crawl under the bleachers and use the TRX as my metal detector and dig all the targets it reached.

I have to say, this thing is amazing. I had the sensitivity set to 3 and the vibration turned off. I was digging coins as deep as 3 inches and am sure if they were there it would have hit deeper ones. It took me about 1.5 hours to cover both bleachers. Sadly no gold or silver jewelry. But I did find almost $8.00 in clad coins. So all by itself the TRX has recovered over 5% of it's cost in under 2 hours of work.

I originally purchased the TRX as a back-up pinpointer. I now plan to make my GPP my back-up and put the TRX to work full-time.

I like the adjustable depth idea.

I still love the simplicity of my garrett pro pointer. The trx is great but never understood the need for a "deep" pin pointer. Kind of an oxymoron really. IMHO.

Mine should be here by the end of the month. Can't wait.

I understand the TRX detects off the tip, compared to Pro-Pointer full-shaft (360) detection field. Any advantage of one over the other? I also hear the TRX "tracks" into the soil, which may help in hot ground? Input welcome, as I'm about to lay some money down.

If extra features which aren't needed is something your looking for then get the trx, if not then just get a simple garrett pro pointer. This coming from a whites guy. GL HH.

I'm looking forward to the features on the trx but I've been through two garrett propointers with disappointing results. If the whites does not false and have to be turn off and on over and over I'll be happy.

Oh wonderful another another tool for the ol' MD tool kit. bye bye money, nice knowing you, buh bye. Must go research the TRX sounds interesting.

Sorry to hear that dirt, let me ask you something, do you turn your pro pointer on in the air or do you touch the ground as you turn it on? Does it tend to happen when the battery gets low? Just asking cause I've experienced the same issues. Try touching your plug first while turning it on. Worked for me. GL HH, mike

Must admit, I have not researched this pinpointer. But is it waterproof!? The features sound superb, but is it waterproof!?
Will someone pleeeeeease manufacture a non-diving waterproof pinpointer. GL
Peace

mine is air tight and would expect it to be water proof to a couple of feet but is not sold as waterproof. It floats.. so if you just want to use it in a creek, yep it should be good to go from what I have.

It has a hole over the speaker...so, no, DON'T totally immerse the TRX. I saw someone using one with electrical tape over the speaker hole to keep water out and to quiet the unit down a bit. That might help for at the beach. I bet putting it in a heavy duty zip-lock baggie would give it a little underwater survivability.

The speaker is not the issue for it not being waterproof. It's actually doing fine (there is a membrane over the speaker hole). And you can wash the pinpointer under running water. It is water resistant enough for that. The button seal is the part that is not totally reliable on waterproofing - yet.

I used my new TRX this past weekend hitting the sidelines of soccer fields looking for clad coins and dropped jewelry. What I love (and think is a real advantage) is the depth the TRX will pinpoint. My Garrett only seems to be able to pinpoint through approx. 1" of soil. Yesterday I got most of my hits at 2" to 3" deep. I did quick pinpoints with my detector then used the TRX for the exact location. This allowed me to dig tiny, clean little holes.

The TRX is water resistant, not waterproof. Has an O-ring where the batteries are inserted. Another nice feature is you can use 2AA or 1-9v battery.

You guys appear to have two different usages for pinpointers.
-Using it for a mini detector around metal bleachers, etc. here you want more range. I use a Vibratector for this. It has a 6" range.

-Using it for a (in the hole) pinpointer. Here you only want a 1" range.

An adjustable sensitive controll allowes you to do both.

I really like my TRX. It is excellent for everything especially coinshooting. The extra depth helps me pinpoint better to dig smaller holes or easier to use my screwdriver.

Answer to the question about the detection area on the point, yes but also about half way up the shaft, it also has a spot that will detect.

My 2 favorite features are the adjustable on the fly depth adjustment and more importantly for me here in Texas and the sandy soil is the replaceable case. I have worn out one Garrett pinpointer scraping the ground in only a few months. I had just purchased my second Garrett to replace that one once the tip was completely gone when they announced the TRX. Now I have 2 Garretts and the TRX. The TRX is now my primary.

Just to let you know a little trick used by wedding photographers that you could use for your avatar. Open a book that has white pages and just set your ring there with the band on each page. You can shoot it from any angle with no obstructions. Jest a thought, Frank...

PS: You can go to a plumbing supply store and get a piece of PVC, or CPVC pipe to cover your pointer or perhaps jest an end cap for a cheap fix.

Picked my TRX up today. Feels solid and will surely outshine the Bullseye II I have been using. To bad it's pouring raining and blowing wind today.

I watched a you tube video review where someone dipped the tip in plasti-dip, the stuff you use on tool handles, to protect the end. Seemed like a good idea. He also said it was easy enough to remove if you needed to replace it.
