Does anybody have one of these? If so how do you like it?

Different....

I'm pretty sure that is just an inexpensive single axis fluxgate magnetometer.

He's saying it's not GPR, and I agree, it's a magnetometer. Completely different animal. Whether it's a decent mag or not might be the next question, and I generally find that companies which misrepresent their products don't make very good products. Or, the next question might be whether you really wanted a GPR or a magnetometer, or maybe something else.

Well I thought it was a gpr!! Which I’m thinking about buying me a magnetometer! But wasn’t sure how good they really work! You ever used one!? Is so how well did it work!?

Yes, I have a couple of mags. But what is it you are wanting to do?

A mag can only detect iron, so it better have some amount of iron.

Really I did not know that! Can it detect lead?
No, a mag detects anomalies in the Earth's magnetic field, caused by static-magnetic elements, namely iron, nickel, and cobalt. It cannot detect lead, silver, gold, copper, etc.

So why does people use it for treasure hunting?
  • If you are looking for an iron strong box from a train or stagecoach robbery, a mag might be your best bet.
  • If you are looking for a Spanish shipwreck that was carrying iron cannon, a mag would probably be your best bet.
  • If you are looking for grandpa's cache buried in a steel ammo box, a mag might do as well or better than a metal detector.
  • If you want to detect concentrated black sand deposits for finding placer gold, a mag can do that.
  • If you want to map ground mineralization changes looking for a backfill spot, a mag might be able to do that.
