Hello All,

Well, I said that if I found nothing else this year, I wanted to find more of the Spanish "Castle piece" I dug in this post: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...ish-colonial-cap-badge-henry-clay-button.html

I managed to find another piece today, and I am starting to think that we're dealing with a Shako.

When I recovered the first piece back in spring, a Spanish Colonial expert, collector, and curator told me "I quietly hope that this might be a fragment of a Spanish shako plate, but to make any judgment about it more will have to be recovered. There has never been, to my knowledge, a Spanish hat plate found in the U.S. If you have one, it would be a treasure indeed." I have now sent a new photo of both pieces to him, and am awaiting his reply.

This was my first time with a new camera, and doing a longer video. Got one title card in there wrong, but otherwise turned out well.

Happy Viewing, Buck

awesome field! amazing finds!

I am quite sure that this coat belongs to a family Spanish nobility, not a shield the Spanish Army that the Castle Tower deveria be attached on the left rather than the right .. when be the Tower on the right side that indicates important family coat of Nobility, which makes this finding a lot more valuable and important.
Sure it's the 18th century, the baroque decoration garlands and overall art .
I vote Banner ! ;)

That is one awesome site you have there Buck. Colonial taverns have always been my favorite, and are usually the most productive in terms of buttons and coins. Also, I've found trash pits at most of these sites too, and they can also be very lucrative due to all the activity there. You definitely need to make an effort to find yourself a pit as you'll be well rewarded for sure, and you'll quickly find out that it's actually more fun than detecting if you can believe that. Anyway, congrats on another great hunt, and I'll be looking forward to hearing more about that plate/badge ..... Bill

When you said this find was good enough to last FIVE hunts and not find anything else I knew it was special. The look on your face was priceless, I could feel the excitement although I really didn't realize just how rare and special this find was. Congratulations my friend! What a Christmas present! Interesting find. Did you check in with John Powell to see if he has any idea?

This is the spanish coat of arms on the Bronze cannon at the Presido in San Francisco. Looks reversed to me. File:Presidio of SF cannon Poder coat of arms.JPG - Wikimedia Commons

But here is the crest of Carranza. Also could be family name Carranza or Karranza crest as well. Two Spaniards by that name came here in the early 1800s to New Orleans.

John is who I quote above from our earlier e-mail exchange. I have sent him the new photo of both pieces and am awaiting a response. He knows just about everything about Colonial Spanish history and artifacts!

WooHoo! I am glad to see that you did manage to find another part to your other mystery piece. It does look like it could be a cap plate for a Shako, huh!! I hope that your contact can confirm this to be and that your Christmas will be a little more brighter now!!!

Merry Christmas!

Yeah, it really does with the hole for mounting. Fingers crossed on the find. This relic has been chosen to be featured in Stumpt in American Digger too, so there'll be some chance at solving the mystery.

Regards,

Buck

Vid turned out well. I think I'm done with filming and posting little 30 second clips like I used to do. It's time to get something a bit more artistic together.

Cheers,

Buck

With finds like this you won't have trouble making longer videos.
