Don't think it was meant to be a one-hitter..

No idea how they smoked it back then, but I'd run an 8" pipe from the bowl
to the Sphinx's arse, then put in several powerful in-line fans. At the arse,
mount a multi-port diffuser with a few dozen mouthpieces (like a hookah).
Toss a hundred pound bale in the bowl and get the whole town ferschnickered.
