I've been enjoying the site for some time and just recently decided to join.
I'm a long time metal detector enthusiast and always like to read posts
from others around the country. Guess I'll have to figure out all these
"tags", avatars, etc... that accompany individual posts. Computer saavy
is not my forte. Has anyone ever tried to organize a "standard" detector
discrimination test that we could conduct through this site and
subsequently report our findings? Seems the greatest emphasis is placed
on depth when discussing the various metal detectors, but I feel that unless
you're a relic hunting-all metal type searcher, a nice data base derived from
a fixed discrimination test on all the various machines would be of equal value.
Since none of us can own/test every popular unit out there (although I've been
duly impressed with the number of machines some of you guys DO have!) we
could pool our results, get data from most all the available units, and report them here.
Or has this been done before and I'm just showing my ignorance by not finding the data
yet? If you hunt using at least some discrimination (come on.....you know you do)
wouldn't you like to know how all the machines out there respond at your favorite
setting? I've compared several of my own machines using this simple test and it's
a real eye-opener. Or should I direct this topic to a different category within this
website?
Thanks for listening.
