I dug this at a 1800s property I've been hunting. I'm not sure if it was a toy or possibly a decorative item. It appears to be made of either lead or pewter. I have found all types of bullets and casings from this property including civil war Enfields ,Gardners and 3 ringers. I would Love to know what this may have been or at least what type of gun it's supposed to be. I attempted researching it myself but i didn't even know where to begin. You guys always amaze me at the things you can identify. I will provide more pictures and measurements if needed. I got home late last night from MDing so i just took some quick pictures. I appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks for looking.

Sure looks like the antique rifle letter openers popular in the mid 1900's. Congrats on a great hunt. Sub 8-)

Some better pics would help. Is that a 22-250 cartridge below the coins?

It could very well be a letter opener but, I remember, as a kid in the 50s going to Winchester, Va. and buying toy cap guns shaped like rifles. I wish I still had them.

I had one as a kid in the 1960's. They sold them at places like Gettysburg for us tourists.

The shell below the coins is either a 22 Hornet or a 25-20, I believe

I remember having a SMALL, REPLICA antique rifle when i was a kid...it shot caps. That gun reminds me of the same thing. Was around the mid '80s.
