Two hours of detecting and all I had to show was a couple of musket balls and a memorial penny. Didn't know this was anything but junk until I got home and washed it up. Thought it was just another piece of brass or copper for the next trip to the scap dealer. Two sides, both with same design.

The only reason i ask buckleboy is a guy in my area found one just like it oneday in a area where andrew jackson lived while in pensacola..I would like to see some info of the companys that made the fakes....
 

This was found in an area where I've previously found military buttons etc. along with coins dated in the 1850's to 1870's. I doubt if it's a fake in the traditional sense. I think buclkleboy was referring to the fact that the design looked military but was used by civilians. At least that's my interpretation.
