Garrett AT Pro, Garrett AT Max, Equinox 800
Two hours of detecting and all I had to show was a couple of musket balls and a memorial penny. Didn't know this was anything but junk until I got home and washed it up. Thought it was just another piece of brass or copper for the next trip to the scap dealer. Two sides, both with same design.

I guess the word imitation has a different meaning in florida :D

Imitation roman coins were produced 2000 years ago, thats why I asked. Of course it could have meant last week as well.

Yes me too. There should be alot of info on all these companys making these imitations..

That is why I check everything 2x before tossing it in the trash!!

Nice find!

How can you tell its a imitation and not the real deal? How many companys made fakes?

relicdude, you should perhaps buy the book on powder flasks. It is "The Powder Flask Book" by Ray Riling. The book is the "Bible" for flask collectors. The flask posted above does not bear the Colt mark. There are FOUR flasks listed in the book with nearly identical designs--None of them were made by Colt. They were PERIOD imitations made by another company copying the Colt design.

The one you posted in your reply, Relicdude, bears the words "COLTS PATENT"--and it WAS made by Colt. The one posted above bears no such mark, hence it was Not made by Colt.

You were the one to use the word "Fake." This is not a "fake." It is a genuine period piece--and I identified the piece correctly in my first reply.

I'm more than happy to find you a place to buy this reference book for your library, "relicdude."
