If only coins could talk, huh? This one may have been struck by a large caliber bullet and torn almost in two. Subsequently, it was bent back and flattened, as evidenced by the cracks. Apparently it was well worn after that point. Maybe a good luck charm. Might have been a target once upon a time. Or possibly it saved someone from a nasty wound and therefore lucky. Fun to conjecture, but it is what it is. As I said, if only coins could talk.

Prolab69--Is that a gunshot or a drilled cent? Looks too clean for gs. Just guessing. Did you see the CS belt buckle on Pawn Stars with a totally undamaged 3 ringer half way through it? Judged as fake, but I strongly suspected a real one would have some serious mushrooming on the lead. Experts???? If I go shopping and the bullet is "pristine" is it fake or possibly real?

PS--perhaps someone needed change for a penny, and it was more than a half cent, hence the 2/3rds of a penny!

Well, considering that the coin is convex its telling me that something passed thru it with considerable power, now if the coin were flat? then yes, I would say drilled. The hole is off center also.

Yup, that there's a gunshot alright.

I had a clad quarter with a wound that looked exactly like that one - except that no attempt was ever made to flatten it out. I brought it to my bank and put it in a deposit bag to screw w/the tellers. They all thought it was the strangest quarter they had ever seen. They also would not allow me to deposit it.

You can see how it folded right over from the shot, from the pictures, kinda looks like it was in a vice or something because the one half is flat, then bent it back past the tear afterwards, very cool find indeed.

:headbang: interesting , may have been the lucky penny that spared a life :o

surely looks like it was gunshot! will be a cool conversation piece. The other coin pictured surely was drilled and probably was used as a washer for something. I found a large jar of those at an antique store once and was told they had been recovered from an old barn roof where they were being used as washers to help hold the metal roofing in place.
