well im almost positive its a 1909. and the back might be post mint damage but when i look really close i can see some of the writing where it chunked off.hard to see in pictures Cassie and I took at least 20 photos but none showed well enough. could be some sort of lamination break ? i dunno but if its 100+ year old coin in circulation anything could have hapened

So true! Have you tried taking a rubbing of it? Thin paper, use the side of a pencil lead, not the point. Start away from the area you want, and rub into it. May need to try a few times. (Try it on a penny whose date you can read first - you may have to tape it to the table?)
