I know its 1 or the other. It has a small dimple on the flat side which is hard to see in the pic. I picked it up cause it didnt show much damage like most in the fields I find. That was the only find of the day.

Nice shape, I would have brought it home neat.

why not both?,,,if you needed something like that you would use it anyway you wanted.

Often grinding stones exhibit hammering wear on the edges. I'd guess they often had to do some pounding to break whatever up a bit before it could be ground worth a darn. Think about a dry corn kernels, you couldn't just go to grinding with out first cracking them up a bit.

Native American multi-tool...hammer, grinder, boiling stone, and "attitude adjuster" in a pinch.

I am very green on thows kind of tools. like quito mentioned maybe for crushing up meal.

Thanks I thought maybe both to. I dont find many of that material in that area so when I saw it was flat on 1 side with a slight dimple I figured it was more than just a rock.

Sometimes we just never know for sure. That's what a portion of the special out door rock garden is for round here.

Hey Rock. I see the dimple. It may have been used for starting fires with a bow drill. Definetly would have been a useful tool.
I think maybe some people look right over the larger rocks. Good find.

I got a few kinda like that with the dimple on one side that i found years ago on a village site.

Well it was found just below a site down at the bottom of the hill. Could of washed down very easy over the years. Funny thing is that I have seen it laying there and never picked it up for over a year now, lol

I see by your posts that you are doing very well. Keep it up!

Keep looking rock, there is bound to be something better.
