I have a new avatar now for a few days, was wondering when someone would notice (no one did). The avatar is one of the coins I found in the former harbor, along with the double musket balls, but still have not found a determination for the coin. A great coin, came out of the muck clean, was a pity a small chip was broken off, but still very nice. 32mm (1 1/4").

Determination by Cru : Double Hammered Groat 14th Century Northen Belgium, Lodewijk de Male, 1346-1384

Nice silver coin! Looks to date around 1300s-1400s and it has a similar cross like the Spanish coin I found last week from 1580ish. Could it be a Spanish Netherlands coin? Congrats on the find and HH, Mike

Don't know, I know the Spanish ruled the area known as Holland for quite some time.

Not sure if the above is the right King but its close.

The give away was the 'MONETA DE FLANDRIA' in the inside reverse circle. My lanuage skills is terrible, but I guess its 'Money of Flanders (North Belgium)'

PS. I did notice it. Only just researched it based on my UK Hammered IDing skills. This is the first foriegn hammered I have IDed.

Thanks Cru, I knew you would come home for me! You can read that stuff like you were born writing it! Really good, to me all the letters look the same... Great that you have found it on the net also! Nice that you noticed it. Say, stopped searching, or is it still raining by you guys?

You should know rain, snow, sleet, & wind don't stop us. Were have run from Lightning a couple of times. lol

We have run out of ploughed fields (even our 2nd fav is now out of bounds), we have the Winter Stubble Field which is shortly going to have an Archy dig on it (next month or so??). I will try & help with it but it means I give up finds I would normally keep (oh well!).

Well Cru, you guys will just have to hunt for some land that you have not searched which is laying fallow this year, should be fun and you don't know what you will find on new land do you?

I don't mind the rain so much (good rain jacket), its the cold that gets to me sometimes. I have searched believe it or not on top a hill with about a foot of snow on the ground and still snowing (but it was powder snow, so that was ok, you still got to just about above the ground without any trouble, it didn't even add too much to the swing power you had to use). But was cold, buuuuuurrrrrrr.

Shaun, you don't have to feel bad. I just like to keep changing the avatars around with my finds.... That way no one can find me!
