I got out with a couple buds today to a couple new spots which had (have) some serious potential. We were contending with the rain and electric fences for most of the day but we were rewarded with just enough to warrant a return visit. The spigot is probably 1700s and the buckle, I am told, could be as early as the 1600s...

I'm looking forward to heading back for another kick at the can!

Checked the book. Its 1550-1650 (probably the later period of the range for Canada?).

'Trilobed, trefoil moulding on the outer edge of each loop & at either end of the strap bar'

You know, if it had screw-holes, your buckle could easliy pass for a fancy electrical plate cover!

That's very impressive! I've hunted many early sites and never seen a buckle in that range come out. It may be a once in a lifetime find for you... DAMN! Did I just say that. Big mistake. ::)

Thanks IH...I never really appreciate the rarity of a find until I hear from you. If you're impressed than it must be really something! I'm dying to get back there...

A piece of eight or a banner find?

Like I said I've dug similiar old areas for 8 years and the earliest buckle is still about 100 years off.

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted as well, but then I just figured it was probably a plate cover for a hobbit's hole...... ;D
