It looks like TS Hanna is going to be moving up the Florida coast, and is forecast to be Cat 1 this coming Friday just a beam of the Space and Treasure Coast. Hanna looks like it is going to take a track reminiscent of Hurricane Floyd back in 1999.
Hurricane Floyd caused lots of beach erosion along the Florida coast, and uncovered millions of dollars in Spanish treasure along our Barrier Island beaches.

"Millions of dollars of Spanish treasure await those who would dare brave the eye of the hurricane."

If it continues its' track east of the coast, it will indeed cause accelerated erosion. Since the DIRT placed on the beaches is not as compatible with the beach environment it will indeed erode faster than the natural material.

Will the local government officials (police) let you over the bridges and onto the beaches if this hurricane does go up the coast??

That depends on the severity of the storm and the damage to the barrier island. They close the causeways to all traffic once the winds reach about 45-55 mph., and after the storms they only let evacuated residents back for the first day or so.
Since the current forecast is for only a Cat 1, they will most likely only evacuate the folks in mobile homes.

I hope it takes a more southerly course because the stronger Easterly winds are north of the eye.

Ill be there. ;D

Recommended: Contact Indian River Shores Public Safety if you are planning a trip of any distance to come to the Treasure Coast area to hunt the beaches... ask them if the accesses will be open...

It would appear that Indian River County & IRS PS have a plan in place to keep everyone off the beaches for "our safety" and the protection of the residences along A1A during tropical storms and hurricanes. All of the beach accesses were locked down during TS Fay and the Five-0 were "guarding" them intently. Lots of new "No Parking" signs along the way too just to keep us from parking along the roadside... just in case you had that in mind.

Ahhh... there's nothing like the smell of socialism in the morning air... the government just loves to save us from ourselves...

Happy Hunting! :icon_pirat:

I noticed your emerald pics at the museum, Phipps. :)

I may be on the beach before the storm hits this time. :D

ha ha ha... you need to eyeball them. Some have tried a heavy strainer. I dont think a UV lite will work. :icon_scratch: (I believe Cappy is working on a machine that will locate emeralds but the prototype is a closely guarded secret at this time   :D) Otherwise, you need to eyeball them and be lucky.

Fay and Gustav are yesterdays news. Hanna is coming with Ike and Josephine not far behind. Wow!! What is going here? ??? Ike being the most promising or should I say; the most dangerous. :o

Looks like it is now headed towards my neck of the woods. Might have to head back to Charleston this weekend...

Hanna and Ike Tuesday. Ike has the potential to become a monster.
