Took a drive yesterday, side street in a mostly white middle class neighborhood now there's cars on both sides narrow center lane up a head I see 2 young guys on 20 in bikes Half way down the street the older one just keeps coming down the center, about 10 ft. in front of me he stops. I stop and notice the younger one comes right up to my side window reaches in his jacket pocket but before he gets (His skittles out) I pull and lay my stainless one on the dash. He whistles first kid drives up on the sidewalk and splits along with his Bro. and this was in daylight. just saying could have been a trap or they were handing out coupons for watermelons? I need a answer from the other side what should I have done?

The stupid part if the dude had done it on my wife's side that would have been a predicament.

Onfire, sounds like you handled it well. You don't need to hear what the other side has to say. They will just key in on certain words you used and get all negative on you. Of course these same people would have just got robbed and/or murdered. Not much you could do if unarmed except maybe punch it and run over the older thug. If your wife was armed and trained, she could have done what you did if the threat came on her side. Good job.

I see no problem with revealing you were armed if you felt threatened. If I feel threaten I will reveal I am armed as well, just knowing someone is armed deters crime....

I can not remember ever reading news report someone was attacked while wearing exposed firearm, but there are hundreds of stories of people who were attacked who were not wearing exposed firearm.

Wife and I go to farmers market on Sat to buy fruit and veggies, we always get at least 2 watermelons. I also buy melons on roadside when I find good deal...... Love watermelons!

Not sure what action I would have taken. To expose a legally concealed weapon because of a definite threat is one thing but to expose it because you "might" need it could, depending on circumstances, be considered brandishing. Given the present atmosphere you had better take race into consideration also. Although crime stats show you need to be much more concerned if the other party is black, to respond because of that fact would be considered racist. Of course if you are Jesse Jackson it's ok. He even said, "I hate to admit it, but I have reached a stage in my life that if I am walking down a dark street late at night and I see that the person behind me is white, I subconsciously feel relieved."
I think you probably reacted in the best way possible given the circumstances. Had he pulled a gun and you shot him, you would be the next guy on trial and I hope you don't think you would get a fair one.

Maybe another candle lite vigil will finally detour crime. Instead of all the goof protestor's not standing on these street corners and demanding stop this sh it.

My post was strictly information on how easy this could have escalated Even beeping the horn and asking to move can cause a dumb reaction. The location were this happened was not random If that kid had malicious intentions in mind and a shot was fired they would have more then enough time to be blocks away, and forget about witnesses the sound of gun fire people usually hit the deck. I also carry a guardian angle pepper spray with Ghost pepper juice. very bad stuff.

I think you did the right thing. When people approach me in public and I'm not asking for their attention they need to make it extremely obvious their intentions are friendly. "Excuse me, Sir.." is how I start any unexpected conversation with a stranger. Like I said in the post in which I was lambasted by several members, what do people think he wanted? Directions? Not if he is on a bike. Medical emergency? Looked fine to me, no blood. Money? Sorry, I don't give handouts and detest being stalked for one. Sell me drugs? Yeah....nothing else to say.

You did the right thing. Everyone knows that I don't carry a gun but when I was in that situation the very first thought I had when I was driving away was, "I really need to buy a gun." I've said my piece...

Twice I have had attempts on me to be robbed where I heard words give me your money. Once in DC, once in Chicago.

Another time was a maybe as I never heard "give me your money or wallet", but he was beating on my car window at an interstate rest stop about 70 miles outside of Chicago at 3 am...I was sleeping when he started beating on my drivers side window with fists...He ran off when I displayed my pistol and my dog started acting like he was dinner.

Also been attempts to physically assault me couple times when I was in late 30s early 40s.. But they changed their minds when they saw my dogs, didn't have to display my piece....

All those times that it happen I was either armed and or was traveling with 1 or 2 full grown boxers, of which my male boxer was 125 pounds of solid muscle.

When I was in early 20s I stopped attempted kidnapping and most likely rape or worse but was not armed back then and he got away although I did give chase.

In 1969 I was assaulted by 3 men outside a bar when I was leaving, by myself, young and in the service and had the hell beat and kicked out of me. Three was just to many to put up much of a defense with no weapon...

I thought at the time as they were kicking me that i wished I was armed as I wasn't sure i was going to survive.

A couple saw what was going on yelled and they took off in a car. They were never caught and I had no idea why they jumped me as I had had no problems in the bar and had never seen them, but it was obvious I was military so maybe that was reason.

No major damage except 2 black eyes, nose bleeding, busted lips, cuts and bruises and real sore ribs from the kicks.

I legally carry over 95% of the time I am not in company truck...
