Giant sequoias need fire to grow. Not metaphorically — literally. Their cones stay sealed tight for decades until heat cracks them open. Only then do the seeds fall.

Only then does new life take root in the ash, free from the shadows of a canopy. There must be destruction before being brought into the light to live for thousands of years.

I’ve been thinking about that today — on a holiday that asks us to name what we’re grateful for, even in a world on fire. Maybe gratitude isn’t about pretending the flames never touched us. Maybe it’s about honoring what has survived.

Renewal. Continuity.

Sequoias don’t fear fire;
they transform through it. And so can we.

Great picture, and that was deep. It has me thinking about Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, which has been on my mind a lot since reading that Voyager has just reached 1 light day from earth (16.1 billion miles).

Kinda makes you realize just how vastly far a "light year" is, and how utterly impossible deep space exploration would be with current technology.

Great picture, and that was deep. It has me thinking about Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, which has been on my mind a lot since reading that Voyager has just reached 1 light day from earth (16.1 billion miles).

I do a pretty decent impression of Carl Sagan ..”It took billllions and billlions of years to create the Universe”. I also do a hilarious Deputy Dawg, but that may be a bit before your time. Lol.

Sagan always fascinated me with his grasp of space and time, and our minuscule blue dot of existence within it. I still have trouble getting my mind around how we humans built a machine that can travel 16 Billion miles and it still sends us pictures from a light day away, but we can’t build a cellphone tower that doesn’t drop calls.

In the Cosmic scheme of things our footprint may be small, but working together we can have immense impact. How we choose to use that will determine our futures on this tiny blue dot we call home. I hope we use it wisely. Your thoughtfulness gives me hope that we will. 👍
