Harassed by the Police tonight...

As long as the schools in this area have an 'open' campus, they are okay to hunt if there are no other school functions going on at that time. The permit I got covers all the city parks with the exception of one historic building/museum and its' grounds (considered a park) and the cemeteries.

This situation is very easy to solve without getting into the "weeds" of the underlying problem....You attend a City Council meeting, and address your concerns to them, and the problem will be solved one way or another....Hint! When you do go to the City Council meeting, or even to the Schools Superintendent, tell them what you have found in those schools that the children are exposed to at the play area's, etc....I have reported to the Principal of a school, on more than one occasion that I have found live ammunition, shards of glass, nails, hypodermic needles, used condoms and a variety of other objects that will be harmful to anyone, let alone a child....You see....it's that simple, and in this situation, swimming upstream will not solve anything....I am NOT taking the side of the cops in this scenario....my feeling is they are way out of line, and could have handled the situation a lot better....Why not give both of these possible solutions a try, and I would start with the Principal of the school, and if necessary, the Superintendent....the issue about the Parks resides in the City Council....I wish you well my friend, and good luck....SushiDog

Bev, I knew a guy who used to always hunt old town urban demolition sites. He'd just wait till the workers cut out for the day, and help himself. He said that if anyone ever questioned him, he'd tell them that the "other guy who was here awhile ago, said it was ok". And if the person persisted, by asking who this other person was, he'd say "wearing a hard hat, blue jeans, and drove off in a truck". Because when you think of it, that describes EVERYbody who works at a const. site, right? The worst that would ever happen then, is the objector might say "well I don't know who that was, but I say to scram". So he'd just leave, if so.

That was funny! Could come in handy sometime. :laughing7: :icon_thumleft:

Bev is snickering in Rhode Island...
I like the looking for a long lost ring of a relative is a good one- till you get caught by the same guy in another park, unless you say of course your relative was drunk and didnt know which park he lost it in... :laughing7:

Took my kids mding in a place in SD one summer. This was a deserted town once run by the Feds. There was an old abandon church there that looked real tempting. As soon as we started swingin a truck pulled up and a 19 year old farmer boy with a bad attitude jumped out. He got into my 12 year old sons face screaming CAN'T YOU READ, the sign says stay out. I walked over to the punk and told him to cool it, the sign he was talking about was about 80 years old and unreadable. He commenced to tell me we were trespassing on his dads land. I told him the sign says federal land and as far as I could remember the land belonged to WE THE PEOPLE. He said his dad leased the land from the Gov so he had the right to throw us off. If we didn't leave he would call the county cops. We gathered up our gear and got ready to leave the place. Before I got in the truck I approached the kid and told them I worked for the IRS and to tell his dad to expect a call. It ticks me off to know that our government can lease our land without permission from WE THE PEOPLE.

RRich, a person that leases land from the feds does not have ownership or the rights of the landlord. You were right to vacate with the comment to call the appropiate people, then follow up on it. We had a person leasing public land around here that lost his lease because of his attitude toward the public. Same attitude that you discribed of the guy you ran into.

While all of us enjoy the research and adventure of prospecting and treasure hunting, I feel so "boxed" in here in the gold country when it comes to getting access to areas we would like to search....I live in Sacramento, California where I enjoy rivers near my location, and the gold country is only about an hour drive away....we have the Sacramento river, and the American River, and the Cosumnes River....a lot of cool places....my whole point is that the Cosumnes River is the only untamed river out of all of the River systems here, and I will be darned if there is any local access whatsoever to get on that river! So WE THE PEOPLE own the River, but it is THEY THE PEOPLE who own property that abuts access to it....Something is very very wrong here....I am very frustrated having less and less access to what WE THE PEOPLE own, and it's not like the old timers of yesteryear where only a man's soul and a gun ruled the day....some how, some way, we need to get some laws passed on the State and Federal level that prohibit the "real owners" of their God Given treasure, and that is the land and all of the wonderful creatures that go along with it....SushiDog

The government owns enough land. Personally, I'm sick and tired of seeing every square inch of land appropriated or seized by the government under some similarly communistic ideal.

Sooooooo.....what can we do? I mean, the Teaparty has changed the dynamics of the political scene in America which is good, and I am wondering if we can do something similar to reclaim our rights and property.....any suggestions or idea's? SushiDog

Don't count on it. If these Tea Party people happen to get themselves elected it will be business as usual within a year or two.

I knew someone would miss the underlying premise to what I said....LQQK....these regular, individual citizens had enough fire in their belly to make some changes....THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT! Do you get it now? So, I ask you....what are YOU going to do about it, and do you have any positive idea's? It's so easy to belly ache, but action takes some effort....enough said...SushiDog

What did I miss? Do you really belive that someone like Sarah Palin is going to lead some movement to reclaim something the feds have taken away? News flash, once the government takes it from you, you will never get it back. The game is rigged and we are not supposed to win. Republican, Democrat, or Tea Party, it doesn't matter. Once the temptation of greed and corruption take hold it's too late, and it's all politics where the government is concerned.

This is not a political forum, and in my [opinion], you are the problem, and you will never get it...I am unsubscribing to this Forum....Goodbye....SushiDog

Yup, all my fault. Later Pollyanna. :tongue3:

Was no fighting in the "politics" forum...so i came here! :laughing9:

Look on the bright side, you're living history. Now you're getting an idea of just how the American Indians must have felt! ;D

Here in Rhode Island all the small fresh water beaches that I went to as a little kid have either huge fences and/or signs every 10 feet saying keep out, private, no trespassing, no swimming, etc. It's almost as if the state buys all the land around any swimming area so we are forced to go to the "official" beaches and pay 10 or 15 bucks a pop. There is a community farm that is "open land" preservation now, acres of farm land and old buildings. I can't metal detect but 50 "farmers" can dig deeper than I ever thought about? Huh? I just shrug. What can I do? Not much so why waste too much time getting upset over it.
