Went out for a quick 45 minute hunt before supper and dug this WWI General service hat badge and scalped Lincoln. I was looking for silver, but I'm way happier with this cool relic.
Why do short hunts always seem to be the best?

That's a sweet find JC! Congrats.

Still lookin' for a hat badge..........your's has all the bells and whistles..........vintage, historic and in great condition!! Congratulations!!

Thanks, it was only four or five inches deep and was a really nice low 90's on the Deus. I found it out on my golf course that is criss crossed with old pioneer/early 1900's wagon tracks. It was in a depression that I think used to be an old sand trap. It's covered in grass now, but the soil was very sandy and not like the rest of the area.

So given the location and depth, almost certainly authentic. The real value is the crap that guy probably went through to get that badge. Many of those battles forged our national identity. My thanks Sir for rescuing it and giving it a home.

That hat badge is awesome :icon_thumright: I have a few beheaded Lincolns... musta been fun to take some tin snips to a wheat cent back in the day!

Poor Abe! That hits a bit too close to home man lol. Nice looking badge buddy.

Thanks Chizzy, the loops are gone from the back, but over all it's in decent shape

Authentic for sure, it has the "Roden Bros" mark on the back. It really glad it's the real deal! This is my third hat badge, but my first like this.

I've found a lot of gunfire damaged wheats, but this is my first crop top

Haha Abe, don't worry. Think of it as an early Presidential Pac-Man!
