Hi All,
I'd like to get some feedback from the veterans here on a metal detector purchase. I'm in the market for a salt water beach and diving detector and have been debating between the Excalibur II and the Fisher CZ-21. I've spent the last couple of weeks carefully going through multiple threads on the subject. In the end, they seem both to be quality machines and the consensus seemed to be that you can't go wrong with either. I had pretty much decided that I would go with CZ-21 UNTIL recently learning of the following:
I live in Bogota, Colombia where the dollar has been rallying against the Colombian peso. The local metal detecting shop has a new Minelab Excalibur II w/ 8" coil which is now going for the equivalent of USD $960, which seems like a great bargain for this machine. They, unfortunately, don't carry Fisher machines. So now, I'm thinking that the $960 price for the Excalibur is too good to pass up (my alternative is to wait until I venture back to the States in February to buy the CZ-21 at about USD $1125 through Bart).
Any feedback would be much appreciated. I'm now leaning toward buying the Excalibur II at that excellent price, however, I hesitate because of all the modifications needed to be made to the Excal II (headphones, shaft, etc. etc.).
