If you're ever out alone on a moon-less night near the village we hunt, you might hear the blood curdling wail of the devil - because I got his tail. lol I spotted about 3/4" of the broken end of it sticking out of the ground (note the lighter color where it's been exposed for some time) and pulled out this piece of shaped elk antler. I spotted the little chert point while looking for the broke off part. It was the same with the antler flaker, just the back end out of the ground.

I know some have asked before about the condition of the bone items we find here. In this area as long as bone stays in the ground it deteriorates very little. Once exposed to sunlight and the elements it begins to break down. These pieces are good examples.

Interesting, what do you think they would of used it for?

I love the way you started the thread like an Edgar Allen Poe poem. You are a powerful man, you broke the tail off of the devil. Lol. I told you, all you have to do is believe in the spirit and good things will come your way. That is the secret, believe in the spirit.... And.... Well... Have good hunting grounds. You will have accumulated enough stuff in about three more weeks to start your own museum!

You boys got some good pickins up that way, very COOL!!!! God Bless Chris

I tbink he used it to poke and stab at the Mandan villagers to torment and test them. lol

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I don't know what it's actual purpose was. Ornamental? Tool? Toy?

Thanks, but I wasn't the one brave enough to break it off of him. I just happened to find it and I might have a deal for him if he wants it back. :) lol thanks

Sounds like a Charlie Daniels song to me. Yeah, I think I would work that deal myself. You could stroll through life worry free then.

looks like it could be a kids bow

I think it really is the devils tail. He may have lost it while looking a bone flute. Jonny beat him on the fiddle. I think they were going to have a play off on the bone flute next, but the devil lost his tail and went back to hell. Poet and didn't know it.

it could be a childs bow we have found a few and they look similar (i'm serious)

but i am thinking most likely ornamental if it is made from split elk antler

Great finds...
