Pulled this little guy up yesterday. Found in a NJ farm field. It looks almost heartshaped. Has a few distinguishable features, was hoping someone could make a positive ID or date. I believe it may be 1650-1700. Thanks, Jim 48175103_2938030836214385_1700888215507959808_n.jpg48373573_2938030789547723_3043912166705987584_n.jpg

Sorry, but it a great find. Congrats

Thank you so much. Did not think there was enough to get an ID. That is interesting shape. Almost thought it was one of those special heart shaped specialty rare ones for a min. :icon_thumright:

Very underweight for a 1 Reale. Some can be explained due to the wear, but it had to have been trimmed post-mint. It would be just the right weight for a a 1/2 reale. But there are design elements that were only on 1, 2, 4, 8 reales. The 1/2 reale used a monogram.

Looks like a monogram style half real to me. I see nothing that resembles pillars and wave design on that one. Doesnt look clipped either just worn. You must have a much better eye for them than me. What design elements are you seeing? I do have several pillar and wave cobs that were clipped/cut to half real size though. I even have a monogram style half real that was cut to 1/4 real size

I tried to download and save the one picture to draw/highlight what I see. But for whatever reason, the file (even though it is a *.jpg) would not open and it said it was unsupported. I with I could provide visual indicators, but it is what it is. I already stated that the weight is more in line to what a worn 1/2 reale is. But my eye sees the vestige of the one right pillar with the scroll at the top indicating a pattern that was not used on the monogram 1/2 reales. I could be wrong in what I'm seeing. What I'm not wrong on is the date/mint/assayer. The dispute seems to be whether it is 1/2 reale or 1 reale.

I know im gonna get ripped for this
BUT - the image, to me, looks casted.
sorry if I my have offended any one, not my intention

In my (limited) experience, I don't see clipped coins almost perfectly rounded. Nor do I see 1R coins (with that much detail) weighing that light (unless fake; and I don't think this one is a fake). So I lean towards the 1/2 real.
Don....

Good I'd Don that's a sweet coin
