3/4 grooved with a flute. reddish granite. Found at the exact moment we heard the farmer screaming expletives at us. It was our fault because we ventured onto another field without really noticing the fence. With no time and thinking it was a whole axe I quickly put at the small of my back before the farmer came to us. He was one teed off dude, veins a poppin and everything. Told us to empty our pockets or he'd call the sheriff, so we did. I gave up a very nice side notch and my buddy gave up a nice one too. Oh well, it was our fault and we probably deserved it. What a field, stuff lying everywhere. Boy was that farmer a prick though.

You didn't happen to be in Adams county did you? That's sounds like a similar experience I had with a farmer there. We were hunting a set of fields we had permission to hunt and accidentally crossed a small ditch line, no fence or signs at all mind you, and went into another field. This farmer came out of nowhere screaming at the top of his lungs at us. We had found a lot of pieces in the other fields and a few each in his field as well because like you said they were laying everywhere. He said to empty our pockets and I told him no that we had found everything we had in the other fields since we had only been in his field about 25 minutes. I lied, but no way in Hell I was emptying my pockets for this prick. I just turned and walked back to the other fields we had permission to hunt and he stood in his field and watched us until we left.

Nice Axe, by the way. Shame it's damaged.

Really.... go ahead and shoot me, because if i live through it, i'll be owning your farm, if not, my family will own it! If you want to know whats in my pockets, describe whats missing and i'll let you know if i have it! Now, if i was the farmer and i had to deal with trespassers frequently, i would post my property enough so that trespassers would know exactly where they are at, but to threaten me and tell me to empty my pockets, i'll laugh at you everytime! Catch me if you can! :hello:

It's still a killer axe ;D

We were in Northern Kentucky when this happened. It's about as bad of an encounter as I have had. Usually they will just tell you to get off the property. I do believe he would have called the police if we had not complied with his orders. He kept on bringing up the cops, so we handed our stuff over. $300 trespessing charge ain't worth it. He was a World Class Jerk if I ever saw one. This would be a good topic. Bad Encounters.

He has no legal right to tell you to empty your pockets, I would have said we found nothing here and walked back to the field you did have permission to hunt. If you were off his property before the police arrived it would have been his word against yours, and you had permission to hunt the adjacent field. (Where are his posted signs, is there a fence dividing the property) I don't think your tresspassing if you accidently walk on someones property that isn't posted or fenced, and there is a requirement on the mininum distance between the posted signs.....

When I hunted I had on my tall mud boots, on the inside of them were long pockets I added for points, these pockets were out of view unless I took them off.

B-
Nice axe man. That looks like ancient damage from use. Lucky Dawg!

Chuck

I've met ONE of the world class jerks before. The encounter started off like yours lost lake (yelling and screaming), then i calmed the man down, and we talked over a half hour and i eventually got permission from him during the STANDOFF! Anyways, i was told, but haven't seen it in writing, that WE/YOU/I are supposed to know where we are at and where the boundaries are before venturing forth! The (BAD ENCOUNTERS) post seems like a great idea. I vote that you start it since it was your idea! :icon_thumleft:

all you have to do is say cops and people usally drop their shit and leave. hes probably a collector, he did make you empty your pockets and took your arrowheads!

Killer axe man, sorry to hear about the huff with the farmer. A lot of the farms that I used to hunt have changed hands and been sold to and bought by similar pricks, that sucks. :icon_scratch:

Nice axe even with the damage.I had a runnin with a farmer about 7 years ago I was hunting with my two cousins in late february we had been hunting for about 30 minutes and I had found a big grade 10 first stage dovetail, I yelled at my cousin to come over and check it out
and about 5 minutes later this guy walks right out in the field and had all this camo on and he asked us what we were doing, I said were hunting for arrowheads so it was like a switch went off he started cursing and swearing to get out of the field and hand over what we found and I just laughed I told him it would be a cold day in hell before he made me empty my pockets so he stared at me for a few secondsand said get out of the field so we got out of the field there was no way he was going to make me give up that dove one of us would of took a butt kicking before that happened.

I wouldn't have emptied my pockets, I would have just appologized and left.

If he insisted, I would have given tossed over my wallet and then called the sheriff for robbery.

i parked on the side of the road one time to hunt a river and a man came up pissed as hell at me saying to get off his property if i wanna walk the river park elsewhere. this year im going to park my car there again and lay a huge bag of morels on my hood that i get from work. lol.
should of said i will come back when the corn is taller, lol.

In thirty years of hunting I have been confronted twice with shotgun toting farmers, with the business end pointed at me. Once I had been shot at with a 22, about 15 years ago. My buddy almost died from getting hit by a .22 in the leg, hit his artery.

More than a few times the cops, game warden or DNR has been there too, never a good time.

Bottom line - Now I always get permission and know the property limits. I hunt better without having to look over my shoulder all the time.

Being arrested and charged with trespassing once may not be a big deal - a fine and maybe a day in the pokey. But multiple times can start to haunt a person even years later in this day where background checks are performed for many jobs now.
