3/4 grooved with a flute. reddish granite. Found at the exact moment we heard the farmer screaming expletives at us. It was our fault because we ventured onto another field without really noticing the fence. With no time and thinking it was a whole axe I quickly put at the small of my back before the farmer came to us. He was one teed off dude, veins a poppin and everything. Told us to empty our pockets or he'd call the sheriff, so we did. I gave up a very nice side notch and my buddy gave up a nice one too. Oh well, it was our fault and we probably deserved it. What a field, stuff lying everywhere. Boy was that farmer a prick though.

Hello to all...I am a very infrequent "poster" but frequent "observer" of the forum...In reading this thread I had to get the last post by "Dognose" to find someone who "gets it"...I guess to put it in perspective one must view it from a "backyard" standpoint...My backyard consists of 70 ac. in rural NC and I would be concerned looking out a window and seeing someone unknown walking about...I'm sure most anyone would be if it were their backyard...I would just say make sure you know where you are or expect to be "confronted" hopefully in a civilized manner...You never know what "issues" the landowner has dealt with in the past and he/she might be "springloaded"...When I find a deer stand "inadvertently" placed in one of my trees, I simply leave a note to remove it or it gets donated to the friend who has my permission to hunt...All in all I really enjoy the forum and have learned a lot:)...To quote sage Rodney King: "Can't we just all get along?"...Barry...
