Found this heavy corroded copper fitting on a beach. Appears to have two shouldered areas for tightening and the other side had some faint remanents of grooving that might be external threads but only about three threads deep.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a packing nut, possibly from behind the propeller on an old boat motor.
