Ok thanks for your reply.it came from a gold district in Nova Scotia.can a jeweler be able tell if it is gold?

Welcome to TNet. Lots of sharp gold folks on here. Metrotec gave you some good advise and others soon will also I am sure.
I am not sure what you are calling gold. Looks like quartz from your picture but not clear enough for these old eyes. Thanks for posting.

Does it flatten when you hit it with a hammer or shatter? Gold won't shatter....
