Just wanted to introduce myself. I started looking for arrowheads seriously about last spring. I live in the Ohio River valley area. A lot of my hunting has consisted of riverbanks. I have hunted 1 cornfield but plan on hunting more this year. This forum provided a lot of information for me as I was trying to learn, so I thought I would join. I have an arrowhead I found that I am having trouble identifying. I found this on a riverbank. I can't tell if the base has been broken or it was made that way. Thanks in advance! 20150813_231156.webp20150813_231024.webp

Welcome!
Hard to tell from those pics. More than likely broke which makes ID unlikely.
But the second pic almost looks like it may be a well worn bifurcated base?

Not broke-looks like a snapped base Adena. Some think the snapped base is intentional.
looks too big for a bifurcated point ...IMO

Welcome aboard :icon_thumleft:

Welcome from southwest Georgia. It looks to me as if the base is broken but it is still a good find.

No such thing as a Snapped Base Adena. It is a Point with the stem broken off and nothing else. It may have been a Stemmed type and it could just as easily be a broken Side Notch type.

It has some awesome color and is still a nice find... Sorry I can't help with the ID

Thats a nice find broke or not. I wonder if it would of looked like this one I found last year?

Thanks for all the input. I could take some closer pictures of it, but I don't know if it will do any good with the base gone. It is my favorite, it has the finest serrations on it, and has some purple in it under the right light. I have been arrowhead crazy since I found my first full one last spring. Thanks for welcoming me!

I'll have to go along with Grim, broken stemmed point. When pressure is applied in a side ways motion the stem is where it will break.

Hope you can find another one like it to compare. I find mostly triangles so a stemmed point is always a nice find for me.

It's a great find! and welcome to the site! Can we see a pic of the other side? How big is it? It looks somewhat like these to me Eva Projectile Point

Here are a couple more pics. It is 2" long. I am including 2 more that were found within 20 yards. The black one has a similar base. The brown one I identified as Adena, I thought the black one was as well, but I am still learning.

Flaking look correct for Adena.
