I have a blackish smooth and dull rock that looks volcanic or hematite like to me but it has no streak and is only very slightly magnetic at best. Where it looks like it tapered or spouted off at cooling is where I have attempted to make a window. It completely killed my blade and never could finish the cut so I broke it off at the top and smoothed it out. The inside seems to be consistent w outside other than very slight lustre and very tiny greyish granules and shiny or shimmer spots. I'll upload photos if you need more or have further questions let me know. I didn't get a density bc my measuring cup only measures cup only so not accurate enough to go on but it is heavy cold and nothing I've tried leaves a scratch i can't remove and it scratched quartz and during the cutting process it had very little dust and broke straight. I am probably missing the obvious and could really use some help.
Thanks

You say you attempted to make a window. Have you tried to cut off a slice with a diamond wheel?

basalt lava I believe, but could also be slag?

I just didn't think color or shape or feel were consistent w corundum I'd found before but idk. I did cut off a window. The whole point of the rock has been taken off and pretty much same as exterior except for a little lustre. And wouldn't basalt and slag both leave a streak or am I mistaken? Is there some home test I left out that may help? Thanks.
