Got this teleidoscope the other day for $15 and man is it fun lol. I am wondering if this is truly antique or if it is something more modern? I was thinking early 1900s based on the patina but I can't be sure and need help dating it. There are no marks anywhere on it. Also, it reeks of metal, you can't use it without your hand smelling like metal for hours. Anyway I can prevent this such as using brass cleaner? Also, how can I get rid of the rust? It's right on the surface and I was thinking sandpaper but wanted some opinions before I ruin anything. The viewing glasses are really great condition, no scratches whatsoever...!

If the 3rd picture is what you are seeing when you look in the scope, I believe it is called kaleidoscope or something like that.

Never mind I read telescope not what you wrote. Tried to delete post but it is still here.

Wow nice find! It looks very old to me. DO NOT use any brass cleaner, or try to remove the rust as it would greatly harm its value and chances of dating it properly!!!

Art Deco era I'm thinking?... 1925 early 1930s ?? I like it!
