I was given this today in my local buy nothing group. Would love to know more about it.. age, etc…
The top and sides and a thin wood. On the inside, it is papered. On the outside, it is covered in a canvas-like material. There are wood slats on the top, front and bottom that appear to be for support. There are some leather straps remaining. The hardware all appears to be present and original. There are non-pivoting wheels on the bottom. The leather of the handles is mostly gone. No makers mark anywhere that I could see. Any thoughts?

Edited to add.. looking more closely at the pictures, and then re-examining the lock, I do see the imprint for “Eagle Lock Company, Terryville, Conn, USA”. Which narrows the range to 1833-1975.

I think it seems late 1800s to very early 1900s

Canvas. Canvas covered trunks started appearing around 1880, and went into the early 1930s. The canvas, or Duck cloth, was painted to offer some waterproofing, and green being the most widely used color.

Latches or leather straps.
Trunk latches were not in general use until 1872. Any trunk with latches was made after 1872. The strap, and dowel pin method (a leather strap, and buckle like a belt, and a dowel pin used to keep the lid from shifting side to side) was used prior to 1872, and even a little while after. (probably to deplete inventory)
