Looks like a (British) crown at 12 o'clock & "GILT" at 6.
When did they stop marking buttons with the crown? Is this part of how you got your 1700s to 1810 date range? Just wondering and always learning.Late 1700s to about 1810.
I see. I think i've been told that before but I'm quite forgetful. Thanks. It has nothing to do with the crown. The raised lettering was used in England until around 1810. After that they used depressed lettering.
Qwest, could you take a close look at the bottom word? It's driving me crazy. Gilt or Best ? Thanks.
