Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

Chinese cash coin...machine struck from 1890 to 1908. Kwangtung mint. Cool find!

Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

Yes... it is a Chinese cash. I found one years ago. The hole in the middle is for sewing it to a basket for safekeeping. Maybe they didn't know how to sew.

WOW THANKS FOR ALL THE "FAST" HELP.............

BELOW IS WHAT I FOUND ON: http://www.lotn.org/~calkinsc/coins/doc/chinesecash.html

Most cast coins were cast in molds, but in the latter half of the 19th and the early 20th century, some provinces started to move to milled coinage. This cash coin of Kwangtung Province, 1890-1908, is one such milled coin. The fields are smoother and the characters more uniform in height than the cast cash.

THANKS AGAIN..............."MIKE"

yep on the coin, the button is a Great Seal Button, modern, circa 1901 through today...nice find on the coin....

Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

Hey Mike

I checked out the web site with the coins. A gentle suggestion... your pics, both front and back, are upside down. It might save you a little embarrassement showing it.

How deep was the coin?

Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

Dang DDF, whassup with putting the coin on here upside down, bro. I'm embarressed for you, cheez, what were you thinking? Have some self respect why don't you! Have you no shame!! I'm beside myself... :(

PS: I hope you know that I'm way deep messing with you dude, you could have put it on here sideways, I think anybody that knows what one is would recognize it anyway. I don't read chinese. I recognised it , and I ain't the sharpest hammer in the fridge. That is an awesome find, not your run of the mill stuff.

Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

Those cash coins are everywhere :o. I guess with 2.2 billion people in china it's no wonder

Re: HELP..............I CAN'T IDENIFY A COIN I FOUND TODAY!!!!

I think I found your coin. I found one today and was researching it and came across this site. (check link)
go down to the Emperor TE TSUNG AD 1875-1908 and scroll down to where it talks about machine struck coins. That one reminds me of the one you found.
