I have not been able to ID this ancient gold coin. The size is 8mm (5/16")

Very grateful for any help :)

Looks Celtic to me.

Perhaps CRUSADER can help you out--but in the meantime, please crop your photo smaller before you resize and post it. A closer shot of the coin would be much appreciated.

I do also think of something along the lines of Celtic.. But more I can't say.
Someone else will probably chime in with more.

Its what they sell on ebay as 'ancient coins', making people think Celtic.

Its a (top of head, need more research) Indian gold Faram (spelt wrong) about 11th century ish

Thank You CRUSADER!

I was able to ID the coin once I knew it was from India.

It is a gold Fanam from the state of Cochin not ancient (circa 1700-1830)
worth only about $5.00 :(

Thats the one, many have been caught out by them. I see them sell for as much as £50 ($100ish) on ebay, described always as 'ancient', because as you say they are worth very little if described properly.
