All, when I first dug this 14" long iron artifact I thought it was a barn hinge. However, the bent shape and sharp edge along the bottom (side facing ruler in first photo) made me think of a butchering tool. After looking at cleavers and axes on-line, none came close. Any help is appreciated. Happy holidays!

A shingle froe perhaps...
Material similar in shape tends to curve when heated and hammered.
Fighting the curve requires more time and reheats and patience..

Thanks releventchair and Indian Steve, the artifact does resemble a shingle froe. About 60 years ago all buildings on the property were burnt down by the local fire department for practice. Perhaps that is why the artifact is curved. Anyways, I'll mark this thread as solved.

Forgot to add, this too will be donated to the local history society for an upcoming display. Being able to ID it is a big help!
