Hi,
I am new to the group but have an item I found a few years ago that I would like to learn more about. I will attach several pictures. I found it in Charleston, SC in the downtown area in a gravel parking lot that is close to both the harbor and old train tracks (both a few 100 yards away from this parking area). The parking lot is covered with gravel so the object might have been brought in with the gravel and not related to area. I walked by it several times and finally picked it up and took it home. I use it as a paper weight on my desk. It is pretty heavy for its size. The rock (?) looks to have hand chisel marks to round both ends. There is also a groove in the middle that is worn all the way around the circumference of the object. This might simply be something from train tracks or a boat, I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Wow...sorry the pics are so large. I reduced them 50% but they are still large.

Thanks guys for the responses.

DevilDog812--I just checked with a refrigerator magnet and it is magnetic. It sure is heavy for the size so that makes sense.

That does look similar...thanks for the links. Now knowing mine is magnetic, might change the ID??
Yes I think it does. Could it be a piece of iron? I was thinking rock.

it's a long shot but it reminded me of a hand tool that was used to work metal with. It was hammered on one end to form the metal out with?????

Thank you all for the guesses. I am going to look into each of the items you have listed. Hopefully we can figure this one out.
