help id this token.....

Has a liberty head on the front and is dated 1855.
On the back is an eagle on a globe and abve the eagle from left to right it saysFOR YOUR COUNTRY.
Any ideas

It appears to be a game counter— a token used the same way that poker chips and play coins are used today. Many loosely imitated the designs and sizes of U.S. gold coins of the period. I believe that this particular counter has been attributed to the Scovill Mfg. Co. of Waterbury, CT.

Are you sure that the reverse reads, "FOR YOUR COUNTRY?" All those I've seen of this type have only "OUR COUNTRY."

You are right PBK.It says "our country"

I don't know whether it was actually struck in 1855, or only in that year, but it's definitely from the mid 1800's. A lot of the game counters were made in Nuremberg, Germany; so, the fact that this one was made in the U.S., and by the Scovill Mfg. Co., a firm especially well known as a manufacturer of buttons, adds a little interest, too. Neat find!
