Help IDing this butt plate.

It came from the fish lake area in Minnesota a known fur trade area It looks like maybe a 1777 french infantry rifle style any help would be appreciated.

Bumping an old thread because I believe that a butt plate that I found at a trading post site in Minnesota may well be the same as the one posted here. I'm still hoping to ID mine.

I just found a very similar butt plate on a trade musket, except that this one is steel.
