My brother and I are just starting, should we just park and jump in some random woods?, in hope to find something from a traveler long ago? Any hints or tips would be helpfull

Is getting caught trespassing worth getting a fine or going to jail and having your metal detector taking away?

So what do MD do? Ask permission at random houses?

Either knock on doors and ask for permission if you think the people at the house own the “woods” or look up the owner at county tax office and contact them for permission.

Asking people in the area if they might know who owns the land could get you a name and address.
