I believe this to be a shoe/mocassin last. I know lasts are a highly debated artifact, so if it isn't a last, what is it? It has obvious peck marks at the toe, highly polished edge, and an obvious worn line around the perimeter looking at it from the bottom. It was found in close proximity to other stone tools.

Cool! I like when things that don't exist show up.

Did you know moccasin lasts are still in use today?

20160205_173817-1.jpgI also found this in another location lying in a creek. It is an absolute perfect stone cylinder with a notched and rounded tip. The stone is smooth, very hard, but also very lightweight. I am puzzled about this one. Any ideas?20160205_173736-1.jpg

I'm glad you are open to the idea because it sure seems a compelling piece to me.

Welcome to the site and ty for posting your finds. I like the last one you posted but maybe somebody else can pin point it for you.

The second piece looks like a plummet form I have not seen before.

What part of the country are you finding these things in? .....It makes it easier to type thinit.

There sure is a lot pecking on that first piece, no doubt about it.

Last might be the core of an old battery.

Last might be the core of an old battery.

I thought maybe also but wasnt sure if the top with the groove was natural thing with the cores so I figured id let somebody else say it.

This is not an old posting. The first item was found yesterday. I'm a new member, hoping to find some input or answers.

These were found in the Ohio River Valley region

I agree, especially since they said it was lightweight which would be right for a carbon rod.

Not sure about the first piece but it's not a moccasin last. We've argued that enough that I'm not getting into that again. It may however have been a Metate of some type. It does look pecked in the indented section on top. Could use some better pics of that area if possible.

Seems like a good choice for battery core on the second set of pics. .the last I am not sure of. ..gut tells me yes altered by man. But not a last. OHIO river valley is long for sure. And if on the river I would see it more of historic. .just a thought I have no idea.
Great finds thanks for sharing and welcome to TNET glad to have you on board.

All of you have been very helpful. I think I am in agreement on the battery core...but the first artifact still puzzles me. The area in which I found it is rich in artifacts of all kinds. I know by the work on it, that it was used by man.

I'm happy to do that in the mornin'
