Does anyone recognize this object? Found in Europe. Modern, modern-ish, (very) old, or ... ancient...?

Material: Iron. 13,5 cm = 5.315 inches.

IMO modern. First chain link welded and other two add ons that you can get from any hardware store

Chains with toggles were used for all sorts of things, most horse related. However, they were also used for securing wagon wheels while at rest. Since yours was found in a farm field, my guess is that it is part of a trace chain.

Yes, I suspect they tied sled dogs or other smaller hauling animals to one another side-by-side and a cart.
