My uncle found this peice in a creek down in pike co illinois sometime 25 yrs ago. No scientist from dickson monds or spfld musem know what it is, they know that is is not indian though. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? The musem said they have had another guy bring two of them to get looked at, they were slighty different though still the same.
its about 2 1/2 inches across, and little less then an inch thick ...it is stone not metal

WAG. It has some qualities of a fuse.
If it is, then it could be either electrical or munitions related.
As I said, just guessing.

From the back side it does not apear to be stone. It looks as though an area was over poured, as in cast. This shows in the slot leading to the hole. Again measurements would be helpful.

It could be a decorative item. It could be an electrical item.

lostcauses, I agree with you, the back of it looks like it might have a small piece of metal at least on the back side, which has the indentation of a wire through it. Matt, if you come back, run it in front of the coil in "all metal" and see how it reads. It almost seems like it once had wire running through the groove on the face, and the only way to secure it there was through the hole..over the little ridge..and ending with the tip bent back into the shallow depression?

Looks native American.
I saw a crazy stone similar to that once. It was found in a wash where we all picked up stone projectiles back in Milam county Texas.

If the scientists dont know what it is how do they know its not native American ? Did they give you a reason ?

IMO. i say that they put a stone marble on there and tried to roll it around to the hole without dropping it much like a common game they have now of plastic. you got the original?

the original people at d. mounds, first they dug the whole indian mound up and displayed bones to us youngens on a field trip. and when some natives tried to bury them back they decided to go ahead and bury them up. i remember seeing the bones of a pregnant woman with a child in her belly down in that hole. it was the weirdest freak show... scary. almost as if white man had killed them and then dug them up later for display, and money. fake arrowheads and rabbit fur :'(
