Where was this found and going to need to see multiple pictures of both ends, sides, notches, and of the obverse side as well. Never scene anything like it. Looks like a couple of possibilities but pictures will tell the story on this one. It is unique and definitely man-made....................GTP

Can't wait to see more pics very interesting!

Looks like a base to a point but super sized.

Looks like a broken and polished sand dollar that was huge to me

It looks like a natural sedimentary stone with unusual form.

After considering the size in ref to the bic, I think natural. Although, I suppose it could be an artifact developed for a specific task we aren't aware of. Is this sandstone? The edges appear to have been exposed to water, as in a creek or river. Possible fossil?

I'm unfamiliar with the area, and what treasures are frequently found there. The sand dollar is one heck of a nice observation. But, I think the piece is to thick to be part of a sand dollar. Once again, I'm not sure, just my thoughts, which should be out lawed. Lol! Cool piece!

I thought it looked like sandstone too. Maybe it's bone?

Doesn't look like sandstone to me. I think it is way to thick to be a sand dollar. Those notches being absolutely symmetrical to the other side and it showing fluency in form is way to advanced for mother nature to do. This stone had purpose and unless those photos are posted we will not know what purpose that was. This stone was found next to a river? The algae staining would suggest it. If that is the case then there might not be much evidence left. You want to see striations throughout......Interesting piece just need more pictures though and close up of the stone ......

I though natural too, the general shape doesn't appear to be worked at all. Not sure about the notches, is there any evidence of working inside them? Maybe used as an anchor?

Anchor I do believe. An old ancient one.

Good guess, but that seems like a lot of work for an anchor, I don't think so. I believe it's natural, but I am stumped. I know who could ID it, but I would have to send him photos or post photos to the forum he frequents. Here is a 30 pound sandstone anchor from RI.

After the close ups i have to agree with the consensus that this is possibly natural. Still has me baffled as well. It is unique and the form does not seem natural.

About how much does it weigh? Very interesting shape on it. I would of thought it was something more than natural.

Maybe they used it as a net sinker and would drag it through the mud.looks like a hammerhead shark too .Maybe that would scare the fish out of there hiding place.?
