of course.... the pic does not do it justice , there are little cubed like squares in it when i heated it with a blow torch it did not change colors, and it made a popping sound - actually some of the golden colored cubs popped off
any test you can suggest i do to figure it out?
 
Sounds exactly like iron pyrite.

Yes gold "crystals" are very rare, and are not square, but octrahedral (sp)
 
A gold tester or easier yet go take it to a jeweler and they will scratch test it for you.
 
Iron Pyrite (FeS2).
