Help....what is this?

I found this in a creek....i picked it up because it reminded me of a turtle...however when i got home and cleaned it i saw the image of an animal...need help help identifying! Thank you and this is my first post...hello everyone

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Veri2terri! Take a look at Forum: California for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

2nd - like Dave suggested - you should also post your find on Geological Forums > Rocks/Gems.
