Help with a button and a shield

My husband found this button lie object yesterday,its convex,no shank on the back and brass,about the size of a nickel and features a lion with a crown and a unicorn.The shield I found is small,slightly bigger than the coin and made of a sturdy metal.

most of these were enamel, but yours seems to be painted which is interesting

The button depicts the UK Coat of Arms. Seeing the back may help determine age, even if not fully intact.

Thank you so much for the ID on the shield,very interesting! Here is the back of the button. As you can see it just looks like the reverse of the front and I can't tell if there ever was shank there.

Sorry for such lousy pictures and the shameless bump but here is a pretty good pic taken of the back in different lighting. It appears the back is gone so no way to tell what it looked like.
