Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter - Fortune Hunter!
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I purchased The fortune hunter about 5 months ago. I have been hunting regular parks that are new (90's). I also bought a pin pointer(Bounty Hunter). This combo is a good as a beginner. However Due to MD in parks I would like coin snipe alot.. So i need a better Pinpointer. So i bought the Deteknix Xpointer. It will arrive on sat.. My question is this. I coin snipe mostly. Should i buy a smaller coil (4inch) for my Bounty Hunter Fortune hunter? And if I do, Will a smaller coil for Bounty hunter have any effect on my Fortune hunter model? And would it be compatible?

HH and thank you!:laughing7:

I'd think that as long as it is a bounty hunter coil it would work

The ground was there before 1990 so no telling what was lost or buried before that.

The smaller Bounty Hunter coil is going to be better at getting around the trash anywhere your going to hunt.

Smaller coil will be your hot ticket. I really like my pro pointer. There is a mod you can do to your BH pin pointer to make it more sensitive. If your having fun you might want to look at a better name detector.

In a really trashy area, the smaller the coil, the better, as mentioned. If it's not terribly trashy, a larger coil will give you better coverage. Keep in mind, with a concentric coil, a 50% overlap is recommended, to get best coverage at it's maximum depth. with a 4" coil, it would be only 2" of coverage per sweep. I would suggest you look for a small DD coil for that purpose, if available with that model. It would give you the best coverage in a smaller coil, and handle any bad soil mineralization better. HH

Thanks for the Info. I got the Xpointer.. And oh man... I am happy with it. I started looking into used Garrets 350's. But no def. decision as of yet. I think im going to get myself a smaller coil first. That way i have a set of coils for a back-up detector.
