I see a scratch on it and ruby has a hardness of 9. So it would take a diamond to scratch it. Most likely it's fake or some other mineral. Take it to a jeweler. Good luck.

Hard to tell from that picture, but the clarity looks bad. Maybe a practice stone?

Looks like a very low grade ruby, not a lot of value sorry to say.

Ruby's will fluoresce under a black light. It Could be rhodochrosite if it doesnt fluoresce.

Not all rubies show fluorescence. I'd agree with the others though, not really a high value piece I'm afraid.

Nobody can tell you if it's a genuine ruby from a picture. If it is a ruby, looks like stuff they sell on the shopping channel to people that don't know any better. A pretty thing, would be nice for jewelry.
